I hope you all enjoyed the first ever Stratagems episode on How Sears Used Catalogs to Reshape America. The episode was a lot of fun to research and record. Along the way, I knew there were several things that would be ideal for a bonus episode.
First, I recorded a 10-minute audio where I explained the process used to prepare this episode, interesting insights that didn’t make it to the final episode and other tidbits. You can play that from your podcast player or on the website.
Second, it was incredible to hold a replica of the 1897 mail order catalog. It’s one thing to read (or listen) about it and another to hold it in your hands. That’s why I also recorded a 5-minute video where I show you what this catalog looked like.
Third, I collected several photos as I was doing my research. As you can imagine, most of these photos are in black and white. I included a gallery below of all of these photos.
Fourth, I’m attaching a PDF of the outline I used to record this episode. You can see many of the points and quotes covered and how it all came together. You will likely see the structure of these outlines evolve as I play around with different structures to maximize the learning for all of you.
As always, let me know what you think.
Ruben
